Day 5 was a rest day, after the beach i needed to give my feet a break. In Ahipara I got a cabin with two German women I’ve been hiking with. Split three ways I think it was $70 NZ which is like $45 usd for two nights. We got wine and had a pizza party.
Day 6 I took a bus into Kaitaia to avoid a long road walk because of a closed section of trail. While in town I went to the post office and swapped my tent for my hammock, got groceries, then hitchhiked the next 5 km out of town (which is actually recommended as the road is a highway and dangerous to walk along). From there it’s 14 km to camp which is on the edge of the Raetea Forest. The walk goes through some nice farmland but is mostly uneventful. Now I’m laying here happily in my hammock looking forward to tomorrow’s adventure!
