Day 80 – Richmond range – January 13th

We had to wait for Holger to ship his resupply boxes before leaving town and the post wasn’t open until 9. After that we found out there’s a bus going to the town of Richmond, but by the time we got there we realized we wouldn’t make it past the first hut, so we got lunch in Richmond and had a beer before getting on the road.

It took three hitches, one on the major road, then we got to a side road leading to the Hacket hut trail. The first car picked us up after that and said they weren’t going there whole way but would take us over the hill which is the worst part.

As soon as they dropped us off we got picked up again by a guy who lives at the end of the road and took us all the way to the trail.

From the trailhead it was only 2 hours to the hut, so we took a side trip and checked out a waterfall.

We got to the hut around 5 and ran into a bunch of people we know.

Tomorrow we start the big climb.
