Day 16 and 17 – to Monson and zero

I woke up and packed up in the rain, which was expected. The hike to town had some ups and Downs, but was a relatively easy 13 miles. I got to town around noon, got lunch, tried to contact the park and ride in NH about my car, and resupplied for the hundred Miles wilderness. I didn’t get through to anyone about the car, but I’m only at 16 days now, so I shouldn’t be that late, and hopefully that should be ok.

I ended up taking a zero at Monson. I could have kept hiking, but my body could use the rest. I managed to snag a bed for a second night because I knew someone who decided to camp instead, so I was able to take theirs. Monson is packed with hikers.

The day off gave me time to organize a food drop, which means a smaller carry, and I can split it with Beast, which makes it more affordable. Beast is having some knee problems and though she might have to take more time off, but got a knee brace and is going to give it a go. We made a plan for the next stretch which is on the conservative side (we both have to get the food drop at the same time), generally I prefer to have a time estimate and take it as it goes, but with the drop we needed to set a time and day.

Tent city at Shaws. All beds were full and there were tents everywhere

It also gave me time to do laundry and dry some of my gear. However I wasn’t able to get an answer on my car, so technically if the my tow my car that’s an extra day I’d have to pay, but I’m hoping it won’t be an issue 🤞

There isn’t much signal in the wilderness, so I might not get to update my blog until the end. Off we go!

    • Thank you so much for the offer! That would have been awesome and I really appreciate it! Unfortunately I did not see this until now, I only got little bursts of internet and for the most part I just posted new pages. As luck would have it my car was still there at the end, but thank you!
