Day 15 – They’ve got Moxie

We started the day by hiking up pleasant pond mountain and middle mountain, then descended the other side. On the top I stop to talk to a family who hiked up from the pond (it’s Sunday so there are more day hikers). On the way down I met a hiker called Bouncer who I had heard of, he said he was looking for Spoon, so I told him I hadn’t seen spoon in days but I figure he’s about a day behind me. He told me that he had a jeep at the bottom with some sodas in it for hikers and to help myself.

Two other couples that had camped with us the night before were there enjoying a soda when I got there, we all had lunch and talked a bit.

Moxie pond looks about the same color as the drink, I wondered if that’s where it came from. Luckily the water I pulled out was clear.

Then the trail goes up Moxie Bald mountain, which was actually more difficult than I thought, but had some amazing views at the top. Just like the drink of the same name, I was pleasantly surprised.

From there the trail descended again, this time rather gently, to Bald mountain pond lean to. One of the couples I talked to earlier was staying there, I decided to press on, thinking that every mile I walk today is one less mile I have to walk in the rain tomorrow.

I hiked on the the next campsite, which kind of sucked, it was just a flat space with lots of bugs. I kept hiking until I got to a stealth spot but the River where a SOBO is hanging out. 18.86 miles today, my biggest day on the AT so far!
