Day 119 – going to second base

Jayden and I woke up to wind and rain. I can’t say I was inspired to get moving quickly, but we packed up and got going. The rain was heavy enough to be soaking through my rain jacket in the first hour. We came across a really nice hut that wasn’t on our maps, so we decided to go in and dry off a bit and make some tea.

As we warmed up, the weather started to clear and the sun came out!

It ended up being a lovely day, we hiked up Little Breast Hill, which was the majority of the uphill for the day.

Windy!

Then down and across to rejoin the TA and then summit Breast Hill (hardly a hill).

And down a little from there to the Pakituhi hut. As we approached the hut we saw a familiar face. It was Holger! We compared notes from the last section and our detour and talked with some others who stayed at the hut, some NOBOs and some day trippers.

Went part of the way back up the hill for sunset
Another great star night
