Day 118 – chillin on the side trip

After our detour from the detour yesterday Jayden came up with a plan to summit Mt Prospect (which we would have gotten to yesterday if it wasn’t for the wind), by going up to the burnt bush hut, dropping packs and hiking Prospect as an out and back. Then follow the Lindis river (still not in the TA) to the base of Little Breast hill (which at 1638 meters high is not that little), then summit tomorrow and continue on the other side and rejoin the TA just after Stodys hut.

Sunrise at camp

We dropped our packs at the hut and started up the 4 wheel drive track, but not even a kilometer in we hit a gate saying no trespassing. From there the trail markers followed the fence on a very rough trail to the top. Probably at least partly expectations that we would be on a good track, I lost motivation. I went up the first hill and looked way up at the top and decided to just wait for Jayden at the hut. Maybe it was partly because I was up at midnight taking star photos, but I wasn’t feeling it.

Quirky hut

It took Jayden about an hour longer than he expected to summit and return. I was happy to hang out.

From there we followed the river 8k or so further up the valley until we found a place we could make camp.
