Days 38, 39 and 40 – travel chill and prep

Day 38 was a planning and travel day. I had to get back to Taumarunui to plan the canoe section, mostly because I would have very limited food options elsewhere and I would have to carry it a long way if I didn’t come back here (and part of the fun of the canoe trip is not having to worry about weight). So I had to take a shuttle to National Park, then a bus to Taumarunui. Robin and I decided to do the 7 day canoe vs starting further down the river or taking a bus from an earlier endpoint, we managed to work out a plan which has us joining Audrey, James, Alex and Will on our third night.

Day 39 we got a free short jetboat tour from the canoe company! It was a ton of fun. Then into town to do a little shopping, I bounced over to the holiday park for a night to do laundry, shower and sleep in a cabin for a night. Made some new friends!

Day 40 – 12/03 we are all packed with all our things in dry barrels and bags, ready to start our next journey. We will be canoeing down the Whanganui river from Taumarunui to Whanganui, which will take approximately seven days and is one of the great walks. I won’t have any signal along the way so I won’t be updating my blog for the next week. I’m so excited!
