Days 112, 113, 114- Hobbit house – Lake Tekapo to Twizel – 2/14 – 2/16

Holger didn’t want to pay to rent a bike so we could bike from Lake Tekapo to Twizel, and neither of us was keen on walking 48k in a day (there is nowhere you can camp between the two towns), so we decided to hitch.

We went to breakfast with some of the people he’d met on the trail.

We started hitching on the late side, as we were standing there with our thumbs out and lots of cars we joked about betting on if we get a ride in the next 15 minutes or so, but before we even set a bet, someone pulled over. The woman who picked us up was named Tori and worked as a doctor In Christchurch, we later found out that she’s friends with Flo. Crazy!

In Twizel we got lunch and headed to the hobbit house. There’s a trail angel who built a hobbit house and lets TA hikers stay there. We dropped our packs there, but nobody was there so we headed back to town and did our resupply and grabbed a beer before heading back.

Took a zero day, we met a guy named Jaden 🇳🇿 and grilled a feast of steak, salad, corn, bell peppers, mushrooms, blue cheese and kebabs.

I decided to take another zero day, the weather looked kind of crappy, very windy and possibly rainy, although it barely rained in town in the end. Holger decided to start hiking. I tried to do my taxes, but couldn’t get one of the forms I need, so I’ll have to wait until I get back to America for that. Then I looked into what I need to do to get an extension, as I won’t be back until after taxes are due. I found out that if you are getting a refund they don’t charge you late fees, so I can wait. Yay!
