I stayed late at the hut enjoying sunrise and drinking coffee, the view is just breathtaking from a spot right above the hut. I enjoyed just watching the sun slowly creeping down the faces of all the mountains surrounding me. Eventually I packed up and left, the hike down was steep but not too slow.
The next section had a fair amount of gain and it was hot. I got to the Upper Travers hut just after noon, it was in a really nice spot and I thought about staying there for the night, but the section after the next sounds like it could be long because of storm damage so I decided to press on.
The trail went up the Travers saddle, which had amazing views and then went down the other side which was surprisingly steep and had bad footing because of loose dirt and scree.
I got to the West Sabine hut at 5 and it was so hot I decided to camp instead of staying in the hut.
