Day 42 – day 2 of the canoe trip – Poukaria to Mangapapa

Rain, fog, canyon walls covered in moss and ferns that look like they haven’t changed in forever. The rapids were lighter today and there were long stretches where the water was calm. For one of the stretches just before the campsite we just drifted in silence for a while listening to the wind in the trees and water flowing in from side streams. So calm and tranquil.

We bumped into the friends we were going to surprise at the cafe along the way, they weren’t “supposed” to be there yet, but we all know how plans change and we were freezing cold.

Warming up by the heater

I wasn’t surprised we bumped into them, and Amber was wearing her pirate mask, so much for the surprise.

Not long after we got to Mangapapa campsite a big tour group of kids showed up, which is unfortunate, but kind of expected on a great walk. We drank and played cards, there were a few bursts of rain, but nothing too bad.
