Day 142 – Stuart island day 2

As I was drinking my morning coffee I heard a kiwi call, so I grabbed my camera and hurried down the trail, but sadly I wasn’t able to find it. I went back and packed up and set off to the Port William hut. The track was kind of boring at first, but then turned more lush and mossy with lots of ferns, but lots of mud as well. I wasn’t able to get a lot of pictures because I had my bird lens on the camera, just in case I can’t across a kiwi (who are usually nocturnal, but do come out sometimes in the day).

I hiked all day with my kiwi lens on the camera (zoom lens), changing lenses is a pain, so I’ve got less landscape pictures. I have to be ready in case I see a kiwi!

I arrived at the port William hut around 2 and decided I didn’t really want to spend another night with the great walk crowd, so I decided to hike to Bungaree hut instead, which Malween told me was beautiful.

The path was muddy

The DOC sign said 3-4 hours for 5k, I probably did it in just over 2 hours. It was a lovely hut on an amazing beach. I approached the hut and greeting me at the door is Flo! He took a few days off after the trail and was back to hike the Stewart island northern circuit with his mom.
