Day 11 – Rest and Reorganization

We slept in and then made omelettes for breakfast, it’s kind of nice to have a kitchen available. After that we got our laundry and tested the water proofing on Betty’s jacket… no dice. The jacket was still absorbing water. I looked up the wash the guy at the store sold us and sure enough it’s just a gore Tex wash, not a DWR coating. So that’s something we still needed to sort. We drove to the nearest town where there was some crazy festival going on and it was crazy crowded, but we managed to get to a shop and get a spray on DWR finish. We got coffee and a crepe, then got out of town!

On the side of the road we stopped and applied the DWR finish to the jacket.

The weather was beautiful, so we fell for that old mountain trick where the forecast looks good and the forecast looks bad and we drove over to Gavarnie to check out the Circ de Gavarnie, but as soon as we got close we realized it was all in dark clouds.

So we turned around and went to Lourdes to resupply and get ready for the next section. We stopped along the way and ate our cheese and fruit for lunch, so naturally we bought more cheese and fruit in Lourdes. Mmm French cheese!

We went out for Tibetan food for dinner and repacked for the next 2-3 days.

Technically that’s not just food for the next 3 days
