Day 1 – 7/18/2021 – getting to Maine

Kristen and I woke up early, jumped in out cars and drove or we to the park and ride in Portsmouth, NH, we picked that location because there’s a bus from Bangor that goes there, so when I finish I can just bus back to my car. Also it’s kind of on the way to the trail.

The forecast called for light rain in the morning and clouds in the afternoon. It was pouring on the drive up to Gorham.

We grabbed breakfast in Gotham and talked about another possible hike which would still get me on the AT, I basically skipped the section right after town and took a more direct path up, that way Kristen could do another loop and we could start later after the raid slowed.

We hiked up to Dream Lake and then took a path that wasn’t the AT to cut over to a lean to and another lake.

From there we parted ways, she hiked back another way to her car and I started on the AT.

It rained all day, the trail was slippery and tough but at least it was a nice temperature out. I made it to Carlo col campsite just over the border to Maine! Only 282 miles to go!
