HRP – day 3 – September 17th

We had arranged for a taxi pickup at 8:45, which gave us enough time to grab breakfast at a bakery and shower. The taxi driver didn’t speak much English or German, but was friendly. He took us further than I hoped, there was a parking lot then a dirt road after it which took us almost all the way to Lake Colomers. Right away the scenery opened up, the views were just fantastic, it was an amazingly clear day.

We stopped and explored some of the lakes along the way, there were a ton!

We lunched beside one of the lakes, then up and down into the next valley. We found an amazing spot beside a stream that fed another lake, stopped and filtered water, I thought about swimming but when I splashed my face my hands almost went numb, so I passed. We considered staying there, but it was way too early.

Maybe we should have stayed, from there the trail went massively downhill to another lake with a Refugio, the it shot up the other side just as far. Finally we got to Lac De Mar, we though it wouldn’t be a bad hike across the lake but parts were Boulder fields, which would normally be fine but we were tired from all the ups and downs.

We made camp in an amazing spot on the lake and cooked a kind of jambalaya with sausage, fresh garlic, dried shallots and peppers. I’m trying to up my trail food game, and it was a good first try, delicious but maybe not as much food as I would have liked.
