P2 day 5 Out to Cauterets 08.09

We took our sweet time waking up and even had coffee, it was colder than expected considering we were so far down in the valley, which is a little funny because it’s still rather high up, just not compared to where were camping the past couple nights.

The walk out to town was rather boring and crowded, refuge de Wallon is a massive building that’s almost like a giant hotel, so lots of people hike in and stay there.
We got to town around noon, did a little shopping and planned to lunch at a cheese shop where we ate last time we were there, but it was closed for the summer. We found a poke bowl place nearby and went there and it was fantastic.
I rolled my left foot twice the day before and it was still sore and Betty’s knee was hurting, so we decided to head to Vielha in Spain for at least one day of rest. When we got there they were celebrating a holiday and all the places we wanted to go to were closed, and town was one big party, which could be fun, but was more chaos than we were ready for.
We found a brewery that was open and not too busy and they happened to have amazing food.
The next day we woke up both still sore and since we only had a couple days left, we decided rather than spend money on hotels while limping around, we should just head back early and get some work done (we thought about it a lot). So we hit the road after picking up some of the amazing cheese we got last year. We intended to drive 8 hours or so and find a hotel, but the available hotels were expensive or sketchy, so we just drove the whole way back. We got in late, but it was good to be back.
