Day 95 – Windy point car park to Hope Kiwi Lodge – 1/28

Holger, Oceana, Stefan and I grabbed a big breakfast before starting our hitch. We made a hitching sign and while finishing breakfast there were a couple guys at the next table who asked if we needed a ride. Apparently one of them did the TA in 2013. Ocean and Stefan needed to go to Boyle to pick up their resupply, so it made sense for them to take it since Holger and I had more time.

We walked out of town to the gas station and held up our sign, it wasn’t quick but we got a ride without too much waiting.

From the car park it wasn’t a huge hike, we ate so much for breakfast that we just had bars for lunch. On our way in we ran into Gerben and Sanne, she wasn’t feeling well so they were getting off trail for a couple days, they asked us to tell Katie and Georgia at the next hut.

Holger crossing a swing bridge

Holger wanted to try a fly fishing spot up the river, so after we got to the hut we set out to find the fishing spot. It was already getting late by the time r we got there, so we only had a couple hours to fish, and he had to set up hood rig and remember how to tie the knots. I just hung around drinking a beer and feeding the sandflies. The sandflies were aggressive 😐

Fishing

Around 8:45 I decided to head back to the hut because the light was going. Holger stayed on for a little while. We skipped dinner in case he caught anything, so by the time I got back I was starving! I ate dinner and went to bed, a little too late. The hut felt like a sauna, I right sleep very well.
