Day 70 – QCT to Havelock

We finished the last couple kilometers of the queen Charlotte, then some road walking and hitching to get to havelock.

We lunched at the Mussel Pot, which I actually went to last time I was in NZ, it’s famous for a type of large green mussel that New Zealand is known for.

Our original plan was to get to Nelson and try to arrange hiking on the Able Tasman track (not on the TA), but everything was booked because it’s a Friday and there’s a music festival in town. To make matters worse there’s an accident on the only road between havelock and Nelson so the road was closed. We stayed in havelock and did our resupply and research on the next section. It also gave me time to get a new knife (dropped mine on the QCT) and new camp shoes (left in Te Kuiti ages ago and replaced with a pair of flip flops from the dollar store which I hated).
