Day 67 – Goodbye Nouth Island, hello South! NYE

We took the 8:45 ferry from Wellington to Picton on the South Island, which got to Picton at noon. We had just enough time to grab lunch and meet Malween’s friend Audrey who is joining us for a couple days. Then we grabbed a water taxi to Ships cove, where the Queen Charlotte track starts, at 1:30.

The 1:30 water taxi makes a bunch of stops so we didn’t get to ships cove until 4, but on the way we were lucky enough to see some Dusky dolphins.

Because we didn’t arrive until 4 we only hiked 6 or 7 k to schoolhouse bay campsite.

We actually hung out and drank until after midnight to bring in the new year instead of going to bed at 9 like usual.
