Day 106 – between hazard zones – Rakaia River to Rangitata River – 2/8

Got an early shuttle out of Methven with Katie, Georgia, Sanne and Gerben. Started hiking around 9. The trail was uneventful at first but started climbing into high grassland with amazing views all around.

I skipped coffee to catch the shuttle, so when I reached the top of Turtons saddle I made coffee there and enjoyed a break.

Then I hiked on to the A Frame hut where I ate lunch. As I left the others were just walking in and let me know that they were going to stay there, as they had had a late night of drinking the night before.

The next section was beautiful high grassland surrounded by mountains, the hike was easy and I had some time to get lost in my thoughts.

Looked like a heron, but I couldn’t get close enough to tell

I carried on to Comyns Hut, which is a simple 8 bunk hut in a lovely valley. There were 4 friendly NOBO hikers already there and one more who joined later as well as Flo 🇳🇿 and Pierre 🇫🇷.
